Primary Grades 1-3
Primary grade students progress in reading, language arts, and mathematics. The whole language approach to reading and language is used throughout the grades. Grades 1-3 focus on phonics as a separate skill to develop reading skills. Activities introduce concepts in science and social studies.
Students begin to receive instruction from non-homeroom teachers in subjects such as writing and religion as well as receive weekly instruction in our computer lab and science center. Students also participate in music and have weekly visits to our fully automated library. Grades 1 and 2 participate in a gross motor skills program twice a week. Grade 3 participates in a weekly physical education program.
First grade classes have a full-time teacher’s aide. Second, third and fourth grades share an aide.
