Principal's Welcome
Dear Visitors,
Welcome to our St. Gabriel School website. We are proud to celebrate over 75 years in Catholic education. St. Gabriel opened in 1948 amid the sand dunes. Over the next decade, we grew to become the largest Catholic elementary school west of the Mississippi with 1200 students, all from the surrounding neighborhood.
Today, St. Gabriel remains a large Catholic elementary school. This year, we have a healthy enrollment of 500. We serve students primarily from the Sunset District and from other areas of the City, northern peninsula and southern coastal communities. Our student body reflects the ethnic diversity of the Bay Area.
We are very proud of our excellent academic program that strives to meet the needs of each student. We have many co-curricular activities to challenge our students, such as speech contests, science fair competition, and our Academic Decathlon team who have won the local competition in 12 of 19 years of competition. We have a Learning Support Program to assist students with an identified need. We have other programs, such as Bridges, professional counseling, In-A-Pinch, and peer tutoring, to support our students and their families. There are numerous after-school activities available to our students.
Our program is infused with Christian values. Our staff actively helps students develop a positive self-image and a sense of self-discipline. We challenge our students to become loving faith-filled individuals, active participants, responsible citizens, enthusiastic learners and self-aware individuals.
St. Gabriel facilities include a fully equipped Science Discovery Center, a fully networked MAC lab, classroom computer centers, 1:1 ratio of either iPads or Chromebooks, interactive DLP projectors with document cameras in all classrooms, library, and an Extended Care Program that operates from 7:00am to 6:00pm each school day. Our facility includes campus-wide Wi-Fi.
COVID-19 closed our doors from March 2020 - September 2020. But we were proud to have reopened by October 2020 for hybrid instruction with cohort classes. Today, under the guidance from the CDC, the California Department of Public Health, and the San Francisco Department of Public Health, we have fully reopened to our entire student body for complete in-person instruction. More information on our reopening policies can be found on our website.
When you enter St. Gabriel, you enter a strong, vibrant community. We are very fortunate to have the support of our school families, parishioners, alumni, alumni parents, and many friends. It is this community that makes St. Gabriel truly special.
We hope you enjoy getting to know us. Please feel free to call us if you have any questions or if we can be of further assistance.
