A Message from our Parent Chair

SGPO Chair Letter

Dear Saint Gabriel parents, friends & families,

On behalf of the board, I want to welcome all of you to another year together, and a special welcome to all of our newest families. I am Zena Filice, the 2021-2022 Chair of the St. Gabriel Parent Organization. This is my 10th year as a St Gabriel parent and 5th year as a Parent Board member.

Last year was a tough year for many of us but we are grateful for the St Gabriel teachers and staff members, our youngest children were back at school last October for in person class sessions and the rest of the grades gradually joined their peers. The in-person classroom sessions could not have been accomplished without the support, dedication and commitment by all of the teachers and faculty members. On behalf of all of the parents, we thank YOU!

The Parent Organization helps with school functions and fundraisers throughout the year with the support of many parent volunteers, school staff members, teachers, alumni and parishioners. The board is the liaison between the event chairpersons, school and parish. The SG Parent Organization’s events create a nurturing and fun community. My time continues to be filled with laughter, gratifying voluntarism, constant support and deep, close friendships that St Gabriel parents know and understand. We would like to invite you all to get involved, make friends and help raise funds for the school.

This year, the school’s primary goal remains the safety of our children, teachers and staff members. We need to keep the school open to the students and functioning in a normal manner. Consequently, any fundraising events will be hosted with ‘safety’ as a top priority.

We started this year with the first day of school “Welcome Back Breakfast”, we will try to resume most of the regular events we host such as Santa’s Breakfast, Fun Run, Chocolate Sales just to name a few. We have a very enthusiastic parent community at St. Gabriel and for that we say, THANK YOU! If you are new to the school, it is a fantastic way to get to know your St. Gabriel community!

The money raised in these events goes back to the school which benefits our children and their education. Using last year’s “Chocolate Sales” & “Boon Fundraiser” funds, we have upgraded our technology: 21 Lenovo Duet Touchscreen Chromebooks for 1st and 2nd grade, 30 New Asus Chromebooks for 3-8th grade, fully updated computer lab, new lights and teardrop wireless mics.  Parent involvement is what keeps our school at the top of its game, our classrooms updated, and our school grounds clean and safe.

Please feel free to contact any member of the Parent Board or me if you have any questions or ideas you would like to share.

All the best,

Zena Filice
